Help Plan the McKernan Park! The McKernan Community League would like your input on the design and upgrade of the McKernan Park. This is a bigger and longer term project than the spray deck upgrade that will be completed in 2011. Please help by completing the following survey online or by printing the survey and returning it to 11235 75 Avenue. McKernan Park spray deck needs your feedback and support Did you know: The City of Edmonton is planning to convert McKernan Park’s wading pool to a spray deck in the spring of 2011? The City of Edmonton plans to fund approximately $165,000 to convert the wading pool to a basic concrete spray deck with six standard ground sprays. The City conversion does not include any water play features to provide an engaging and attractive play area for children and the families of McKernan. Each summer McKernan and Belgravia partner with the City to provide a safe and fun summer playground program in McKernan Park. The water play in McKernan Park is a unique and central feature for the kids in our neighbourhood. This year we have an opportunity to provide innovative, artistic enhancement features to the spray deck to create an enriching and playful space within the McKernan neighbourhood. We invite McKernan residents and friends to support this unique initiative within our community by giving a tax-deductible donation. Your donation can be doubled as it can be matched by government grants! From 2008 to spring 2010, nine Edmonton neighbourhood wading pools have been retrofitted and converted to spray decks. An average of $53,000 was contributed by these communities to add engaging and attractive water features to their spray deck. As well, six of these nine projects also included rubber surfacing for the ground, at a cost of about $20,000. During the summer of 2009 the McKernan Park Project Committee surveyed McKernan residents and McKernan Park users to identify their preferences of interactive and fun water play features for the proposed spray deck. We are now ready to invite three suppliers to provide us with spray deck designs based upon our community’s preferences. McKernan community residents will be invited to select the spray deck design most suited and most desirable to our community at an open house to be held in autumn 2010. We hope you will join us in reaching our fund raising goal for the McKernan Park Spray Deck.
