Contributions of $250.00 will be recognized by a brick 8x8inches. Donations are tax deductable and best of all your contibutuion will be matched dollar for dollar through the City NPDP grant program! donation form (pdf) Skate Spot Dedication The MCL is very fortunate to be working with the ESA in the design of the Skate Spot. The concrete surface in the park has been an oasis for skateboarders for many, many years. The much improved spot will be dedicated to a special young man who passed away from cancer not so long ago. He grew up in the local area and regularly skated in this park. We are very excited to inform you of our award of $95,000 from the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Lottery Fund. This Community Facility Enhancment Program (CFEP) grant will allow our community to fund above-ground spray deck features and rubber surfacing for the proposed spray deck area. Recognizing the importance the existing concrete wading pool surface is to our youth, the CFEP grant will also fund skate features allowing this area to be optimally used by many age groups and for a longer duration throughout the year. The CFEP cheque was presented to the McKernan Park Committee by MLA Fred Horne at 2:30 p.m. at our WinterFest on February 5, with MLA Kevin Taft, City Councillor Ben Henderson and representation from MP Linda Duncan's office also present (see photo below). Thanks to all who attended! What’s ahead for 2011? The McKernan Park Committee will continue to work with the City park planners and playground equipment vendors, and will also engage our local youth in designing PHASE I. PHASE I, the wading pool conversion, is now planned for spring 2012. The committee will apply for the Neighbourhood Park Development Program grant from the City of Edmonton. Any funds our community raises (including the award from CFEP) can be used to receive matching funds from the City of Edmonton. Our plan is to continue addressing the needs for McKernan Park as identified by you, the McKernan residents. We also look forward to working with the Edmonton Skateboard Association on developing the proposed skateboard features in our park. Please click on the link to the left for more information on ESA.
