Cycling Community Spotlight: Bike Swaps and Volunteer-Run Bike Repair Workshop

Looking to buy a bicycle or donate an old one? Alberta Bike Swap is hosting two events: May 11 at MacEwan University north side underground parking lot 10803 – 105 Ave NW and June 8 at CCT Golf Dome 11925 Kingsway NW. You can also drop off a donated bike at any Sports Central drop-off location.

Does your bicycle need a spring tune-up? You could pay over a hundred bucks at a bike shop, or, do it yourself for free with guidance and tools provided by The Bike Library & Workshop, a service hosted by volunteer students at the University of Alberta. They are open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 6pm. Appointments recommended (book here). They will help you clean and grease your chain, tune your shifters, adjust your brakes, and make sure everything is running smoothly. Some common parts are available for purchase for very reasonable prices. They also rent bicycles for $5/day or $15/week!

Not sure where to go for a bike ride? The river valley is an obvious choice, but we have a great network of bike lanes in our area. Check out the City of Edmonton's Bike Map to plan a new route!
